About Carmen
I was endlessly fascinated by video games as a kid, probably largely due to my mom not letting me play them. This led me to find my own workaround, and I watched a lot of let's plays on YouTube instead. When I was 17, I watched Pewdiepie play The Last of Us. Not to be dramatic, but that playthrough changed my life.
I was deeply moved by Joel and Ellie's wholesome relationship amidst a crumbling world. It amazed me, how a video game explored such complicated themes of love and what it means to be human.
At the same time, I had enrolled in the Savannah College of Art and Design, majoring in illustration. I'd always been captivated by the world of art and visual design, and had decided to pursue a career in that field.
But as I entered the working world as a creative designer, I couldn't help but feel it was not quite the perfect career fit for me. Through pure coincidence, I discovered UX and was drawn to the analytical elements involved. The prospect of using authentic human concerns to inform my design decisions really resonated with me, and I decided to pivot to a career in UX instead.
I attended General Assembly's UXDI bootcamp, then started my new life as a UX designer. Joel and Ellie taught me that life—and being human—are complicated. It's very meaningful to me that the work I now do every day can make people's lives a little easier or better.

Outside of work, I am a fulltime mother to two furry children. In my free time, you can usually find me playing Overwatch. (I’m allowed to play video games now!)
